The Vision
The consultation process for this project was a foundational step that allowed us to truly understand our clients’ vision, lifestyle needs, and priorities. We began with an in-depth initial meeting to listen closely to their ideas and gather insights into their goals. Their 1914 home’s historic charm was a key aspect they wanted to retain, but they also sought modern updates that would improve daily functionality and align with a contemporary lifestyle. Our goal in the consultation was to uncover exactly how to balance these elements, ensuring that the new design would not only look beautiful but also work seamlessly for their family.
During this phase, we explored the clients’ expectations for each area of the home, discussing everything from the flow between rooms to the types of activities they envisioned for each space. They shared that they wanted a home that felt warm and inviting, with plenty of open spaces for family gatherings, yet with dedicated, functional areas to enhance daily life. Through a series of conversations, we delved into practical needs, like storage, workspace, and ease of maintenance, which were particularly important in balancing historical aesthetics with contemporary functionality.
As part of our consultation, we conducted a detailed assessment of the home’s existing layout and structure to identify opportunities for improvement. This included evaluating the structural aspects of the house to understand what changes could be made to expand or reconfigure the layout without compromising the home’s original character. We also discussed potential adjustments that would bring in more natural light and improve overall circulation throughout the home.
Our process was highly collaborative. We scheduled multiple meetings to keep the clients actively involved, allowing them to voice any concerns or specific preferences. To provide a clear picture of the renovation possibilities, we discussed a range of design options conceptually, without delving into specifics just yet. We covered big-picture topics like the ideal ambiance they wanted in each room, how to integrate modern conveniences subtly, and which elements of the home’s original architecture were most meaningful to preserve.
Another crucial part of the consultation was discussing logistics, such as budget, timeline, and scope of work. We provided guidance on what to expect throughout the renovation process, from material selection to project milestones, and addressed any questions the clients had about potential disruptions or the overall timeline.
By the end of the consultation process, we had developed a strong understanding of their vision and practical needs. This thorough, upfront collaboration was key to creating a tailored design plan that honored the home’s history while adapting it beautifully for modern living.

Kitchen/Dining Room
The Jones family sought a renovation for their kitchen and dining room that combined functionality with striking aesthetics. Our approach embraced their vision by incorporating high-quality materials and modern design elements to craft a cohesive and elegant atmosphere.
In the kitchen, the centerpiece of their home, we laid down warm and inviting French European Oak flooring. This choice provided a rich foundation that complemented the updated cabinetry, which featured a timeless white shaker style. The countertops, made from sophisticated quartz, were paired with a sleek glass tile backsplash, creating a visually stunning focal point. To enhance practicality, we installed a durable stainless steel sink and a modern pull-down faucet, ensuring both style and functionality. Efficient ventilation was achieved with an internally vented hood that seamlessly integrated with the kitchen’s stainless steel appliances.
The dining room continued the elegant theme with the same French European Oak flooring, allowing for a seamless transition from the kitchen. This consistency in materials not only added warmth but also created a refined and inviting space, perfect for family gatherings and entertaining. Overall, the renovation resulted in a kitchen and dining area that reflects the Jones family’s vision of a modern, yet welcoming home, blending style with practicality to create a harmonious living environment.
Bathroom
When the Jones family envisioned their home’s bathrooms, they wanted a unified aesthetic that felt both cohesive and distinct. They imagined a first bathroom that exuded sophisticated elegance and a second that provided a touch of luxury, while maintaining a sense of continuity. In the first bathroom, we brought their vision to life by installing Stone Fusion Cream Honed Mapei Ivory tiles in a 12×24 format, complemented by coordinating mosaic accents. This choice created a seamless and sophisticated look. We paired this with a Toto Drake elongated toilet and a Kohler Memoirs Stately drop-in sink, infusing classic charm into the space. The addition of a Quartz Coastal Grey countertop and a DreamLine Enigma-X frameless sliding shower door gave the room a modern edge. Throughout the renovation, our team worked closely with electrical and plumbing professionals to ensure that all installations were perfectly aligned with the design, providing a functional and stylish space. For the second bathroom, the Joneses desired a similar aesthetic but with its own unique character. We continued the use of Stone Fusion Cream Honed tiles, maintaining visual consistency. Here, the Kohler Veer pedestal sink and a Kohler Devonshire bathtub added a luxurious touch, blending seamlessly with the space. American Standard Portsmouth fixtures were selected to enhance the room’s elegance, while our meticulous coordination with plumbing and electrical teams ensured a flawless installation. By carefully balancing their shared elements with distinct features, we created two bathrooms that not only met the Jones family’s vision but also offered their own unique experiences, all while maintaining a cohesive and elegant design throughout.
Our Process
When our clients approached us, they were enthusiastic about purchasing a charming 1914 single-family home in the Ravenna neighborhood of Seattle. The house, situated on a 3,800 sq ft lot, exuded historical character but had never been updated, presenting both a challenge and an opportunity. They envisioned a home that retained its original charm while providing modern amenities, blending the old and new by preserving the home’s historic feel while incorporating contemporary design elements.
We began our journey with a comprehensive consultation to understand their vision and specific requirements. The goal was to create a harmonious blend of historical elegance and modern functionality. Our first task was to develop a detailed plan that included expanding the home’s footprint and reconfiguring its layout to create additional space. We worked closely with them to ensure that every detail aligned with their vision.
The entry room set the tone with Century-Keramos Matte Sparta porcelain tile flooring, providing a durable and elegant entrance. For the bedrooms and closets, we chose Shaw Audacious carpet in Snow Cream, ensuring a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The bathrooms received significant upgrades, combining functionality with luxury. In Bathroom 103, we used Stone Fusion Cream Honed tiles and a DreamLine Enigma-X frameless sliding shower door. Fixtures included a Toto Drake elongated toilet and Kohler Memoirs Stately drop-in sink, adding a touch of classic elegance. Bathroom 104 was similarly updated with a Kohler Veer pedestal sink, American Standard Portsmouth faucet, and a Kohler Devonshire bathtub, providing a relaxing and stylish retreat.
The heart of the home, the kitchen, was completely transformed to meet modern standards while maintaining a cohesive look with the rest of the house. We installed custom Pro-Craft Liberty Shaker White cabinets with quartz Cendre countertops. The addition of a Vigo stainless steel sink and Delta Kate pull-down sprayer faucet ensured both style and practicality. High-end appliances, including a Broan 48″ internal blower and hardwood floors from WV Hardwoods, completed the space, creating a functional yet beautiful kitchen.
For the dining room, we continued the theme of elegance with WV Hardwoods French European Oak Watzman flooring, providing a seamless transition from the kitchen. This choice of material added warmth and sophistication to the dining area, perfect for family gatherings and entertaining guests.
Throughout the renovation process, we used top-quality materials and brands to ensure durability and aesthetic appeal. From porcelain tiles and stone finishes to high-end fixtures and hardwood floors, every element was chosen with care. Their home now features modern amenities such as a larger, updated kitchen, additional rooms, and enhanced overall functionality.
This collaboration was a rewarding experience as we worked diligently to bring their vision to life, creating a home that blends historical charm with contemporary living. The result is a beautifully transformed Ravenna home that offers more space, modern amenities, and timeless appeal.
