The Vision
The family had lived in their 1988 home for many years, cherishing the memories they had built there but feeling increasingly disconnected from its dated design. The time had come for a change—something that would bring their beloved home into the modern era while honoring its original character. Armada Design & Build was brought in to help transform their home into a space that would better reflect their lifestyle and aesthetic preferences.
From the outset, the family knew they wanted a cohesive design that flowed seamlessly from room to room. They were drawn to natural materials and classic styles but wanted to infuse these with contemporary touches. Our design consultation began with an in-depth discussion about their vision. We explored various ideas, focusing on how to blend modern elements with timeless design, ensuring the home would feel both refreshed and familiar.
One of the key features of the remodel was the deck. The family envisioned an outdoor space that would not only enhance their home’s curb appeal but also provide a functional area for entertaining and relaxing. We recommended TimberTech’s Legacy Collection in Pecan for the decking material, a choice that offered durability and beauty. Hidden fasteners ensured a sleek, clean finish, while the addition of subtle deck lighting—three step lights and three post lights by TimberTech—created a warm ambiance for evening gatherings.
The home’s exterior doors were also given significant attention. The dining room now opens to the deck through elegant French doors, inviting natural light and a sense of openness. The entry door was chosen for its classic design, while the back room was updated with a Craftsman-style fiberglass door, adding to the home’s charm and character.
Windows and skylights played a crucial role in the redesign. The family room, in particular, was transformed with new Milgard wood-clad/fiberglass windows that framed the view while maintaining the room’s warmth. These windows, combined with strategic skylight placements, brought in more natural light, making the entire home feel brighter and more spacious.
Inside, the family wanted their kitchen and powder room to serve as the heart of their home—places where they could cook, gather, and enjoy their time together. Custom-made cabinets were installed throughout, providing ample storage and a touch of elegance. Quartz countertops, with their smooth, polished finish, were selected for both the kitchen and powder room, offering a surface that was as durable as it was beautiful.
The flooring was another significant element of the remodel. Provenza Hardwood from the Old World Collection was chosen for the main floor, excluding the entry area. This pre-finished engineered hardwood brought warmth and richness to the space, creating a unified look that tied the entire design together. In the kitchen, a Pental Manhattan Grey backsplash added a modern, textured element, while the powder room featured Pental Satin Wave Bianco tiles, offering a subtle yet sophisticated backdrop.
The addition of a gas fireplace in the family room was a highlight. The Heat & Glo unit, complete with a trim kit, logs, and a remote, provided both warmth and a focal point for the room. The surrounding tile, a 3D Brick Mosaic from Pental, added depth and visual interest, complementing the home’s overall aesthetic.
Throughout the home, new lighting and electrical work were meticulously planned and executed. Sixteen recessed cans, twenty-five outlets and switches, dimmers, and a range of fixtures were installed to ensure that each room was properly lit and functional. A thoughtful combination of pendants and dimmable switches allowed the family to create the perfect ambiance for any occasion.
In the end, the remodel was more than just an update—it was a transformation that honored the home’s history while bringing it into the present. The collaborative process between the family and Armada Design & Build resulted in a space that was not only beautiful but also tailored to their needs and lifestyle, a home they could continue to cherish.

Deck
The family wanted to transform their aging deck into a space that would blend beauty, functionality, and durability. The original deck had become worn over the years, leaving them with a space that was no longer inviting or suitable for their outdoor activities. Armada Design & Build took on the challenge of revitalizing this key area of their home, creating a deck that would become a true extension of their living space.
To achieve this, we selected TimberTech’s Legacy Collection in Pecan as the primary decking material. This choice was driven by its exceptional durability and rich, natural wood appearance, which provided the warmth and character the family desired without the maintenance typically associated with natural wood. The use of hidden fasteners ensured a sleek, uninterrupted surface, enhancing both the aesthetic appeal and safety of the deck.
Lighting was another critical component of the redesign. We incorporated three step lights and three post lights by TimberTech, carefully positioned to highlight key areas of the deck while creating a welcoming ambiance for evening gatherings. These lights not only added a functional element but also enhanced the overall mood and usability of the space after sunset.
The result was a deck that seamlessly blends with the family’s home, providing a beautiful and durable outdoor area that invites relaxation and entertainment. This new space perfectly meets their needs, offering both the charm and functionality they had been missing.
Kitchen
The kitchen in the family’s home was a central space that needed both a functional and aesthetic upgrade. They wanted a kitchen that would not only serve as a cooking area but also as a welcoming space for family gatherings and entertaining guests. Armada Design & Build approached this project with a focus on blending practicality with timeless elegance.
We began by installing custom-made cabinets throughout the kitchen, providing ample storage and a polished, cohesive look. The cabinets were designed to maximize space while maintaining a clean, uncluttered appearance. For the countertops, we selected quartz, known for its durability and low maintenance. The smooth, polished surface of the quartz not only added a sophisticated touch but also provided a practical work area that could withstand daily use.
The kitchen backsplash was another key element in the redesign. We chose Pental’s Manhattan Grey tiles for their modern, textured look. These tiles created a subtle contrast against the quartz countertops, adding depth and visual interest to the space. The backsplash not only served as a protective barrier but also tied the entire design together, offering a sleek, contemporary feel.
Lighting was carefully considered to enhance the functionality of the kitchen. We installed a combination of recessed cans and pendant lights, ensuring the space was well-lit for cooking while also creating a warm, inviting atmosphere for dining and entertaining.
The result was a kitchen that perfectly balanced form and function, providing the family with a stylish, durable, and highly functional space that will serve as the heart of their home.
Our Process
While the home held many memories, its lack of modern features and dark, compartmentalized spaces left them frustrated. Armada Design & Build was called in to address these issues and transform the house into a space that better aligned with their style and daily life.
One of the major challenges was the deck, which had become worn and weathered over time. The family wanted an outdoor space that would be both beautiful and durable, capable of withstanding the elements while providing a warm and inviting atmosphere. We chose TimberTech’s Legacy Collection in Pecan for the decking material, a high-quality option known for its resilience and natural wood-like appearance. The hidden fasteners were selected to create a clean, seamless look, while deck lighting by TimberTech—featuring step and post lights—added a touch of elegance and ensured the space could be enjoyed both day and night.
The home’s interior also required significant updates. The family wanted to open up their living areas to bring in more natural light and create a more welcoming environment. We installed Milgard wood-clad/fiberglass windows, which not only enhanced the home’s energy efficiency but also beautifully framed the outdoor views. The custom-made cabinets in the kitchen and dining areas, along with the quartz countertops, were chosen for their durability and timeless appeal, providing the family with ample storage and a polished, sophisticated look.
To address the need for a cozy gathering space, we added a Heat & Glo gas fireplace in the family room. The fireplace, surrounded by Pental’s 3D Brick Mosaic tile, became a focal point, offering both warmth and a stylish centerpiece for the room. Throughout the home, Provenza hardwood floors from the Old World Collection were installed, adding a touch of elegance and continuity to the design.
The home was transformed from a dated 1980s structure into a modern, functional space that meets their needs and reflects their personal style.
