The Vision

When this couple approached Armada Design & Build, they had a vision of creating a home that would be deeply connected to the surrounding landscape on their newly acquired 10-acre lot. With breathtaking views as their backdrop and an architect’s plans in hand, they envisioned a modern sanctuary that would allow them to fully experience the beauty of nature right from their doorstep. Their goal was to have a home that felt organic and welcoming, blending seamlessly with the outdoors while offering modern comforts and functionality.

Our journey with the couple began with a detailed review of their architectural plans and an in-depth conversation about their goals. They wanted a home that not only framed the incredible views but also used natural materials to create a sense of warmth and authenticity. Large windows and open spaces were critical to their design, bringing in ample natural light and providing unobstructed views from nearly every room in the house. With these elements, the couple hoped to feel surrounded by nature, enjoying a sense of calm and retreat each day.

During the design phase, we focused on enhancing the architect’s plans to bring this vision to life. The exterior of the home was clad in custom-milled beveled cedar siding, chosen for its earthy tones and ability to weather beautifully over time, complementing the natural setting. Milgard wood-clad windows were selected not only for their durability but also for their ability to frame the scenic landscape as living artwork. These windows ensured that the couple could enjoy sweeping views across the property, seamlessly merging indoor and outdoor spaces.

Inside, we laid down custom mill hardwood floors from Elmwood Reclaimed Timber’s Antique Oak Rustic line. This choice was made to echo the organic beauty of the surrounding environment, giving the home a grounded, natural feel underfoot. Every detail was tailored to create a sense of harmony with the landscape, from the earthy stone accents to the carefully selected fixtures and finishes that enhanced the home’s organic appeal without overpowering it.

The property itself posed unique challenges, but we assembled a dedicated team of structural engineers, project managers, geotechnical engineers, and surveyors to ensure the construction process was smooth and the home was built to last. Preparing the site required careful planning to preserve the natural beauty of the lot while laying a stable foundation for the couple’s dream home. With a deep respect for the land, our team worked to integrate the home into its surroundings, minimizing disruption to the landscape wherever possible.

As the build progressed, we kept in close communication with the couple, guiding them through each phase to ensure their vision was realized with precision. The kitchen, a central feature of the home, was designed not only as a functional space but as a gathering place that would welcome friends and family, with natural stone countertops and high-end appliances enhancing its modern yet earthy feel. The bathrooms, too, were designed with simplicity and tranquility in mind, featuring natural finishes and open layouts to create a spa-like experience.

By the time the project was completed, the home was more than a place to live—it was a personal retreat that captured the couple’s desire to live harmoniously with nature. Armada Design & Build was honored to bring their vision to life, crafting a home that will allow them to experience the beauty of their 10-acre sanctuary for years to come. This project stands as a testament to the transformative power of thoughtful design, rooted in nature and created with care.

Kitchen

The kitchen in this project was designed as the heart of the home, a functional yet beautiful space where the couple could gather with family and friends. Taking inspiration from the surrounding natural landscape, we carefully selected materials and appliances that would provide both elegance and durability.

For the countertops, we used Cambria quartz in the “Brittanicca” design, a stunning choice with soft, flowing veins that echo natural stone patterns. This choice offered a refined aesthetic while providing a non-porous, scratch-resistant surface, ideal for a busy kitchen environment. The waterfall edge design added a touch of contemporary sophistication, seamlessly integrating with the cabinetry below.

Speaking of cabinetry, we collaborated with Bellmont Cabinet Co. to install custom cabinetry in their “Vero” line, a sleek, frameless option that provided ample storage and clean, modern lines. The cabinetry was finished in a matte “Walnut” stain, providing warmth and complementing the hardwood floors. These cabinets were installed with Blum soft-close hinges and drawer systems, ensuring a smooth and quiet experience.

For appliances, we selected the Thermador Professional Series, including a 36-inch gas range with their signature Star® Burners, known for their even heat distribution. This high-performance appliance was integrated with a matching Thermador wall hood, designed to keep the kitchen free from smoke and odors. The built-in Thermador refrigerator and dishwasher were paneled to blend seamlessly with the cabinetry, maintaining the kitchen’s clean, streamlined look.

Throughout the installation, we collaborated closely with our artisans and tradespeople to ensure every detail was perfect, from aligning cabinet edges to setting countertops with precision. The result was a kitchen that not only serves as a culinary workspace but as a warm, welcoming space that reflects the home’s connection to nature.

Primary Bathroom

The bathrooms in this home were crafted as serene, spa-like retreats, blending functionality with sophisticated finishes and thoughtful details. Designed with an emphasis on comfort and luxury, each bathroom became a space where the homeowners could unwind and feel pampered.

For the vanities, we selected custom cabinetry from Bellmont’s “Urban” line, a minimalist design that offered generous storage and clean, sharp lines. The cabinets were finished in a rich “Graphite” shade, adding depth and contrast to the space. To top the vanities, we chose Caesarstone quartz in “Calacatta Nuvo,” a durable surface with elegant veining that brought a sense of refined luxury to the bathrooms.

The primary bathroom features a spacious walk-in shower with a frameless glass enclosure, allowing for an open, airy feel. We installed porcelain tiles from Porcelanosa’s “Carrara Blanco” collection on the shower walls, adding a timeless touch that evokes classic marble without the maintenance concerns. A rainfall showerhead from Brizo’s “Litze” collection was selected for its sleek design and superior water flow, delivering a luxurious showering experience.

In the guest bathroom, we added a freestanding bathtub by Kohler, creating a focal point that invited relaxation. The tub was positioned beneath a large window, flooding the room with natural light and enhancing the open ambiance. Brizo’s “Levoir” line fixtures in a brushed nickel finish were chosen for the sinks, tub, and shower, adding elegance and ensuring longevity.

Each bathroom was installed with meticulous attention to detail, from precise tile alignment to flawless cabinetry fitting. By blending luxurious materials and high-quality fixtures, these bathrooms became refined spaces that offer comfort, style, and an elevated experience for the homeowners.

Our Process

Our design process for this unique project began with a close collaboration with the couple to fully understand their vision for a home deeply connected to the 10-acre natural surroundings. The initial plans from their architect provided a solid foundation, yet our team dove deeper, refining elements to ensure the home truly harmonized with the landscape.

The first step was material selection. The couple desired a natural aesthetic that would blend into the environment, so we opted for custom-milled beveled cedar siding for the exterior, knowing it would weather gracefully over time and complement the landscape. Milgard wood-clad windows were chosen strategically, not only for their resilience but for their ability to create large, clear views that framed the breathtaking surroundings like natural artwork.

Inside, we laid custom hardwood floors from Elmwood Reclaimed Timber’s Antique Oak Rustic line. The rich texture and organic warmth of these floors created a seamless connection to the outdoors, setting a natural tone for the interior. Every room’s design was intentionally simple yet refined, with earthy finishes and stone accents, creating a peaceful, grounding environment.

Our team of structural and geotechnical engineers ensured that the property’s natural contours were respected while creating a stable foundation. We addressed potential site challenges by integrating the home into the land, minimizing disruptions to the natural landscape. Throughout the process, we kept the couple informed, adapting our approach to keep their vision at the forefront. This attention to both detail and environment helped transform their plans into a welcoming sanctuary, merging modern comforts with the serenity of nature.
